Assistant Herdsman- Full Time

The Assistant Herdsman assists in the operation of the Robot Dairy as well as supporting and managing processes at the Main Dairy. The Assistant Herdsman will exhibit SwissLane's Core Value of "Focus on the Cows." Applicants must be committed to Animal Care. They will assist in many duties to improve the health and comfort of each animal in the herd by following procedures and performing tasks that include:

• Equipment operation and maintenance

• Cleaning, organizing, and maintenance of facilities

• Cow handling, transporting, and daily health checks

Other Qualifications & Basic Skill Requirements:

• High School Diploma or GED

• Reliable transportation

• Constantly moves through pens to fetch cows

• Absenteeism of 3% or less

• Able to lift 50+ lbs on a consistent basis

• Occasionally rolls cows (1100lbs+) for LDA’s

• Must be able to recognize ear tag numbers from long distances

• Constantly works in outdoor weather conditions

• Employment of 1yr required for to advance to a Herdsman

• Minor Troubleshooting Abilities (Robots and other mechanical systems)

• Knowledge of Basic Computer Functions
